Court has directed former president to appear in person on April 21 or face arrest over Nawab Akbar Bugti assassination.

A court hearing the murder case of a slain Baloch nationalist leader on Monday ordered former president Pervez Musharraf to appear in person on April 21 or face arrest.

Musharraf, who was last week indicted by a special court for treason, has been on bail in three other major cases dating to his time in power, including one relating to the 2006 assassination of Nawab Akbar Bugti during a military operation. “Judge Tariq Anwar Kasi ordered Musharraf to appear in person on April 21 or the arrest warrant will be executed,” said a court official.

Bugti led an armed campaign to press for provincial autonomy and a greater share of profits from Balochistan’s natural resources. His killing sparked deadly nationwide protests and inflamed an armed insurgency that rose up in 2004.

The official added the court had rejected an application by Musharraf’s lawyer Riaz Janjua for an exemption from a personal appearance.

A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court had granted bail to Musharraf in October last year citing lack of substantial evidence involving him in the criminal conspiracy regarding Bugti’s murder.

Stupid courts and legal system! If the President of Pakistan is to be dragged into courts for the killing of each and every one of the anti-state elements (the day Bugti picked up a gun against the state of Pakistan, he became one), then we can say bye-bye to Pakistan as we know of it. Using this same stupid logic, the TTP will be bringing up cases against Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon for their responsibility in the deaths of the TTP fighters in the future.

When will this madness end? The Courts and the judges sitting in them are beyond stupid!

What is the reason for Musharraf to appear in person? Why can’t his lawyers represent him? Musharraf was the President of Pakistan then. There were hundreds of people under him responsible for the action in which Bugti blew himself up and committed mass suicide. Why is he being brought to courts for this? Sounds like a case of Tariq Anwar Kasi being on a power trip. Waste of our taxpayer’s money to transport Musharraf with hundreds of guards and what not when all the court needs to do is set up a video link to ask him questions and whatever dog and pony show that Justice Kasi sahib is interested in running.
