ISPR spokesman says drone had crossed 60m over LoC when it was shot down.

The Pakistani military said on Saturday it had shot down an Indian drone in Kashmir, hours after four children were killed when mortar shells fired by Indian troops hit a village in the restive region.

The Indian drone had crossed 60 meters over the Line of Control (LoC) into Pakistan when it was shot down and captured by Pakistani troops, said Major General Asim Bajwa, director of the army’s media wing. Meanwhile, the death toll after mortar shells fired by Indian forces hit a village along the LoC rose from three to four after another child died of injuries, officials said.

“Death toll from today’s firing by Indian troops has reached four,” Raja Arif, a local administration official in Pakistan-administered Kashmir told AFP, adding that the children were all part of the same family.

The incident was confirmed by local police.

Earlier in the day, the Pakistani military said Pakistani and Indian border troops had exchanged fire across the LoC in two other sectors on Saturday. “Indian troops resort to unprovoked firing in Tander and Baroh areas of Bhimber sector today,” said a statement issued by the military adding that no loss of life was reported in that exchange of fire.

On Friday, Pakistan’s navy said it had “pushed” an Indian submarine away from Pakistani waters, as tensions between the neighboring nations continue to smolder over unrest in the disputed Kashmir region.

Tensions across the long-disputed de facto Himalayan border reached dangerous levels in September, when India blamed Pakistani militants for a raid on an army base that killed 19 soldiers.

India said it had responded by carrying out “surgical strikes” across the heavily militarized border, sparking a furious reaction from Islamabad, which denied the strikes took place. There have since been repeated outbreaks of cross-border firing, with both sides reporting deaths and injuries including of civilians.
