At least one killed, 12 others wounded in blast targeting security forces

A man was killed and 12 others wounded in a suicide bomb blast near a security forces vehicle in Balochistan on Monday, officials said.

The explosion occurred in a town near the border with Afghanistan, police and local government said. A spokesman for the paramilitary Frontier Corps confirmed the attack and said their vehicle was the target of the bombing but personnel remained safe as the driver managed to speed away.

No groups immediately claimed responsibility but Taliban militants have previously carried out several bomb attacks in the area.

Balochistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan, has oil and gas resources but is afflicted by Islamist militancy, sectarian violence between Sunni and Shia Muslims and a separatist insurgency.
